Jack Kirkendall (DBA Kirmen Construction) of both the Silsbee and Orange, Texas area is a con artist, scammer, liar, and a prime example of a wolf in sheep's clothing.
My husband and I met Jack through my aunt who hired and paid him earlier this year (around May 2023) to replace her floors, which still have not been completed. He told her the flooring had been stolen while he was hospitalized, along with a multitude of other excuses, and has yet to complete the work. In the process of explaining away his failure to complete the work, he convinced my aunt that he's had an overabundance of jobs and work to be completed and bemoaned not having good help to complete the jobs. Also, noteworthy, is the fact that he repeatedly spoke with her about God, the Bible, and spewed out tons of stories purportedly illustrating how much God's used him to help others. Being the good-hearted, Christian woman she is, she believed the best of him (based on his lies and false Christian facade) and even decided to introduce my husband to him. My husband works in construction and was struggling to get enough hours at the job he was at. When Jack made him an offer he couldn't refuse (a full 40 hour plus weekly work schedule, double the pay he was making, and a company truck), he convinced my husband to quit his job (so that through him God could bless us) and to start working for him starting the following week.
My husband quit his job. When the time came for him to go to work for Jack, we received excuse upon excuse and neverending postponements to his start date. He communicated little, except to provide excuses, and kept telling my husband he would be here day after day--only to never show up. He kept telling my husband he would come by our home "in a little bit" or for him to be ready each day, only for Jack to essentially ghost him. My husband reached out to him repeatedly to check on him, ask for updates, and even offered to pray for him regarding the medical issues he claimed were the cause of the communication breakdown and start-date postponements. After the first week went by since my husband had quit his job but still wasn't working for Jack yet, Jack finally called us back, apologized, and promised both us and my aunt that my husband would still be paid for the week in good faith. He drug this out over another full week, repeatedly lying that he was about to come over to address it all, essentially stringing us along the whole time. Jack was aware that we are not in a financial position for my husband to be missing days and weeks of work; he was also aware that we have a 5 year old son and that I was in a high-risk pregnancy. Exasperated, my husband reached out to him and begged him to let us know if we need to look for another job or try to get the one he had him quit back, and Jack reassured us and my aunt that we would be paid and that my husband would be working soon and extremely blessed and happy with his new job. None of these promises ever came to fruition. The stress was overwhelming, and I even ended up having a miscarriage. Meanwhile, my husband has not had a job or paycheck for over half a month, and all our bills are looming overhead.
In the aftermath of it all, we decided to do some deep-digging online to see if we could find out more about him. Lo and behold, there's a treasure trove of similarly tragic stories all over the internet regarding Jack's dishonesty, scamming, conning, and fake Christian facade. Most of the stories were from previous clients who claim Jack behaved in the same manner in their dealings with him. We now fear my aunt is out the money for the floor she paid him for months ago. We have been duped, deceived, and hurt by Jack Kirkendall. Please, BEWARE of hiring this man, giving him money upfront, or agreeing to work for him. I just pray he repents and at least attempts to make amends and repair all harm done to those he's scammed. Further, I pray none of you fall victim to him.
